Service set for former music teacher Moran
WHITTIER - A funeral will be held today for Elsa Moran, former president of the Music Teachers Association of California, at 11 a.m. at Hermosa Gardens Cemetery, 900 N. Meridian Ave., Colton.
Moran died Tuesday following a stroke, She was 89.
Born March 21, 1918, she grew up in Colton. She came to Whittier to attend college, graduating from Whittier College and then continuing her musical education at Cal State Fullerton.
Her specialty was piano, and she studied for 10 years under Margatet Lohmann at Whittier College.
She dedicated 50 years of her professional life to musical education. As a 30-year member of the the Whittier Musicians Club, she opened her home many times for concerts and numerous other gatherings.
Moran was an active swimmer at the Whittier YMCA for 30 years.
Married to Thomas Moran for 54 years, they were totally dedicated to their family. She shared later years with her dear friend, Dave Davies.
She is survived by four children: sons Mike, Paul and Matthew Moran, all of Whittier; daughter Laurel Fryer of Santa Barbara; and six grandchildren.
Today's funeral will be followed by a service of remembrance at 2 p.m. at her Whittier home, 5328 Magnolia Terrace.
