Oregon St. 7, Virginia 3

Lonnie Lechelt's solo home run sparked started a three-run second inning and put defending national champion Oregon State ahead to stay Tuesday in a 7-3 victory against Virginia in the Charlottesville regional.

The Beavers (42-18) won for the third time in two days and beat the Cavaliers for the second consecutive time to keep alive their hope of defending their title. Oregon State advanced to the super regional, where it will host Michigan starting Saturday.

Virginia, hosting a regional for the third time in four years, has never made it out of the regional. The Cavaliers were in their seventh trip to the tournament.

Lechelt hit his second home run of the weekend leading off the second inning to tie it at 3. The Beavers then loaded the bases with one out, and Darwin Barney hit a sacrifice fly to the warning track in left that scored Jordan Lennerton, who had doubled. A single to right by Jason Ogata gave the Beavers a 5-3 advantage.
