CSF lands super regional
The Titans will play host to UCLA starting Saturday.

The Cal State Fullerton baseball team will play host to UCLA in the NCAA super regionals starting Saturday at Goodwin Field, while UC Irvine must travel to Wichita State for its best-of-3 series.

The Titans (36-23), who are looking for a return trip to the College World Series, advanced to the super regionals by winning the San Diego Regional last weekend, while the Bruins (33-26) defeated Long Beach State to clinch the Long Beach Regional.

Fullerton has played host to a super regional five of the past six seasons.

The Titans and Bruins were the No. 2 seeds in their respective regionals, but it is thought that Fullerton got the nod because Goodwin Field (3,500) is larger than Jackie Robinson Stadium (1,250). UCLA also reportedly did not bid on a super regional.

Irvine (43-15-1) upset Texas in a rain-suspended game Monday to reach its first super regional. The Anteaters and Shockers also begin play Saturday. All game times are TBA.

Only three of the eight national seeds advanced to the super regionals, one being No. 5 Arizona State (46-13), which will play host to Ole Miss (40-23), also starting Saturday at Tempe.

Another super regional, slated to begin Saturday, still is undecided. Defending champion Oregon State (41-18) faces Virginia (45-15) today for the final spot. The winner takes on Michigan.

The other four super regionals begin Friday: Texas A&M (48-17) plays at No. 2 Rice (52-12), Oklahoma State (41-19) travels to Louisville (44-21), Clemson (41-21) heads to Mississippi State (36-20) and South Carolina plays at No. 3 North Carolina (51-12).
