Texas A&M advances to super regional
Aggies close out Louisiana-Lafayette; Missouri ousted.

COLLEGE STATION — Kyle Thebeau struck out 13 and allowed only seven hits and two unearned runs in pitching a complete game as Texas A&M defeated Louisiana-Lafayette 5-2 Monday night to win the NCAA regional in College Station.

The Aggies (48-17) advanced to their first NCAA super regional in three years with the victory. Texas A&M will play second-seeded Rice this weekend.

Texas A&M lost to Louisiana-Lafayette (47-17) on Saturday but rebounded to win the regional with three straight victories, including two over the Ragin' Cajuns.

Columbia, Mo.

Louisville 16, Missouri 6: Chris Dominguez drove in seven runs with a grand slam and a three-run shot, and the third-seeded Cardinals (44-21) advanced to the super regionals with a season-high 21 hits. Dominguez homered four times in the last three games. The top-seeded Tigers (42-18) were hosting a regional for the first time.

Nashville, Tenn.

Michigan 4, Vanderbilt 3: Pinch-hitter Alan Oaks homered off Vanderbilt ace David Price in the top of the 10th inning, and the Wolverines (42-17) upset the overall No. 1 seeded Commodores (54-13) to advance to the super regionals.

Price (11-1), a left-hander starter projected as the top pick in this week's amateur baseball draft, pitched the ninth and 10th innings in relief. Nate Recknagel hit a two-run homer for Michigan.

Wichita, Kan.

Wichita State 3, Arizona 0: Travis Banwart allowed two hits over 72/3 innings with 12 strikeouts, and Tyler Weber homered in a three-run fifth inning to lead the Shockers (53-20) to the super regionals for the first time since 1996. Wichita State had lost in four straight regional championship games. The Wildcats finished 42-17.

Charlottesville, Va.

Oregon State 5, Virginia 3: The defending national champions advanced to the regional title game with two elimination wins, including a 5-2 decision over Rutgers in the first game. The Beavers (41-18) will face the top-seeded Cavaliers (45-15) today.

Chapel Hill, N.C.

North Carolina 6, Western Carolina 5: Josh Horton's two-run single with two outs in the ninth inning gave the top-seeded Tar Heels (51-12) their second straight come-from-behind victory and a berth in the super regionals. UNC will face South Carolina.

Columbia, S.C.

South Carolina 11, Charlotte 6: Phil Disher's grand slam in the fourth inning gave the Gamecocks (45-18) the lead for good and they advanced to the super regionals for the seventh time in eight years, beating the 49ers (49-12).

Myrtle Beach,S.C.

Clemson 15, Coastal Carolina 3: Andy D'Alessio went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and Marquez Smith had a career-high four hits and drove in three runs to lead the second-seeded Tigers (41-21) into the super regionals against Mississippi State. The top-seeded Chanticleers finished 50-13

Tempe. Ariz.

Arizona State 19, Nebraska 7: CJ Retherford drove in five runs and Kiel Roling four, and the Sun Devils (46-13) exploded for 23 hits late Sunday to advance to the super regionals. The Cornhuskers finished 32-27.

San Diego

Cal State Fullerton 13, Fresno State 2: John Curtis hit a three-run homer, part of a four-run third inning, that helped send the Titans (36-23) to the super regionals, beating the Bulldogs (38-29).
