CSUF Is Ranked Among the Top Public Universities in the West

August 24, 2010

Cal State Fullerton has retained its top 10 position within U.S. News and World Report’s “America’s Best Colleges” annual ranking. The university is listed 10th among “Top Public Schools: Regional Universities (West).”

Fullerton shares the ranking with Humboldt State University. The categories highlights public institutions that award bachelors and master’s degrees, but few doctorates, if any.

In the edition’s broader “Regional Universities (West)” category, incorporating both public and private institutions, Cal State Fullerton ranks 37th among 126 campuses in the West selected for the list.

Fullerton shares the 37th spot with Dominican University of California and Humboldt State University. The university also is included the magazine’s list of institutions with the most transfer students and most campus commuters.

Overall, 572 universities in four geographic regions throughout the nation are included in the publication’s regional ranking; 262 institutions are ranked as national universities.

The rankings are based on peer assessment, graduation and retention rates (25 percent each) and faculty resources (20 percent), as well as student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving.

Harvard, Princeton and Yale University are the top three institutions in U.S. News & World Report’s list of the nation’s “Best National Universities,” which ranks only those offering doctoral degrees.
