Titan Heavyweight Invited to All-Star Match
Wade Sauer to go up against defending national champion
November 13, 2007
Cal State Fullerton heavyweight Wade Sauer has been invited to compete
in the 42nd annual NWCA All-Star Classic in Eugene, Oregon, on Monday
night at 7:30 p.m. in McArthur Court. The event is sponsored by the U.S.
Marine Corps.
Sauer, a junior from Grass Valley, California, is replacing injured Dustin
Fox of Northwestern, the No. 1-ranked heavyweight in Div. I. Sauer will
face Tervel Dlagnev of Nebraska-Kearney, who is ranked No. 1 in the nation
in Div. II and is the defending national champion. Sauer placed sixth
in the NCAA Div. I championships last year and is ranked No. 3 beginning
this season.
The 20 wrestlers participating comprise the strongest field of the NCAA
regular season. The meet is being held in the Pacific Northwest for the
first time in 17 years. Ironically, Oregon has announced it will drop
wrestling after this season. A large crowd is expected for the All-Star
match in part on its own merits and in an attempt to show support for
the sport in the Oregon area.
