Three Former Titans on NBA Summer Teams

The NBA Welcomes Bobby Brown, Ralphy Holmes and Pape Sow

Recently departed senior point guard Bobby Brown and former Titan stars Ralphy Holmes and Pape Sow all will be trying to earn their NBA "wings" on three different Summer League teams.

Brown, who went unchosen in last week’s two rounds of draft, will play in Orlando for the Charlotte Bobcats’ summer team beginning on July 9. Charlotte drafted two forwards and recently released veteran point guard Brevin Knight, leaving a vacancy behind starter Raymond Felton.

“There’s an opportunity for a young point guard to come in and play his way onto the team,” Brown’s agent Aaron Mintz said to the Los Angeles Times. “There is an opportunity for (Brown) to go out there and earn a spot. That’s all you can ask for.”

Holmes, who played for the Titans in 2002-03 and 2004-05, will be playing for the Los Angeles Lakers’ team in Las Vegas. His Yakama SunKings have won back-to-back CBA titles and he was the MVP of the league’s All-Star Game this season.

Sow spent part of the last three seasons with the Toronto Raptors but is now a free agent. The Titans’ starting center from 2001-02 thru 2003-04, Sow will be playing for the Phoenix Suns’ team, also in Las Vegas. Sow appeared in 76 games for Toronto but only a few last season after recovering from a fractured vertebrae. For his career he has averaged 2.9 points and 2.8 rebounds while playing 11 minutes per game. He has career shooting percentages of 42 percent from the floor and 68 percent from the free-throw line.

Relaxing this summer and awaiting arrival of his third NBA Championship ring is former Titan forward Bruce Bowen of the San Antonio Spurs. Bowen again made the NBA’s All-Defensive team and recently appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Adding to his memorable summer, Bowen celebrated his 36th birthday and he and his wife welcomed their second child. Bowen played for the Titans from 1989-90 through 1992-93 for coaches John Sneed and Brad Holland.
