Jack Bedell and Shelly Arsneault Discuss Election 2008

What to expect in the upcoming president election will be debated as liberal and conservative faculty members face off on “Election 2008: How Will You Vote?” a free public lecture at noon, Tuesday, Nov. 6, in Room 130 of Cal State Fullerton’s Pollak Library.

Presenting conservative and liberal arguments for and against the front-running presidential candidates will be Jack Bedell, chair of anthropology and professor of sociology, and Shelly Arsneault, associate professor of political science.

Bedell said he will discuss “why it is not bad to be a Republican right now,” as well as “how Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton can flame out before the election; how no matter how much money former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney raises, the Mormon religion issue will continue to dog him, especially in the South; and why New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson is a problem for the Republicans.”

Arsneault said she will discuss the pros and cons of Sen. Clinton becoming the next president and address assumptions such as why Rudy Giuliani “can’t win the South anymore than Romney can and the possibility that neither Clinton nor Sen. Barack Obama will take the lead once the presidential primaries begin.”

“This will be a very dynamic discussion,” said Sue Passalacqua, associate director of the Women’s Center, event sponsor. “Jack Bedell and Shelly Arsneault are great speakers and they’ll present humor, as well as great information both from a conservative and liberal point of view. The event will be quite informative as well as entertaining.”
