Alumnus John Cruz Named Appointment Secretary

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger named Cal State Fullerton alumnus John G. Cruz as his appointments secretary last month. In that position, Cruz will oversee the appointment-making process for positions that the governor is responsible.
“The people of California will be well-served with John as a member of my administration,” said Schwarzenegger at the time of the announcement. “He shares my commitment to excellence and will assist me in continuing to appoint the best and the brightest individuals from diverse backgrounds in state service.
”Cruz, who earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration-accounting in 1975 and founded his own law firm in 1992, has served in several public service positions. Most recently, he has served as a commissioner on the California Gambling Control Commission since 2005 and from 2002-2007, was a member of the Federal Service Impasses Panel. Cruz also has served as an officer and trustee for the Orange County Hispanic Bar Association, as well as a member of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Technical Reserve Program. He is a co-founding and active member of Hispanic 100 and is a member of the Santa Ana Education Foundation Board of Directors.
