Brian Quinn has signed a three-year contract to continue as Cal State Fullerton director of athletics through Sept. 28, 2009.

Quinn is the first Titans’ athletic director to receive a contract. He assumed his post on Jan. 14, 2002.  The contract took effect on Sept. 30, 2006, but wasn’t signed until today.

“I am extremely pleased by the confidence placed in me by President [Milton] Gordon and Vice President [Bob] Palmer,” said Quinn. “I love the opportunity given to me by the administration and look forward to fulfilling our goals for the athletic program -- being the best we can be in the classroom and on the playing fields and courts.”

Under Quinn’s guidance, the Titans have weathered the recent financial storms in the state and the state university system while excelling in competition and the classroom. The Titans had their best showing ever in the Big West Conference Commissioner’s Cup Standings last year and continue to outpace their Big West rivals in the NACDA Cup standings based on post-season NCAA competition.  The athletic department’s graduation rate mirrors the general student body average.

The baseball team has made three trips to Omaha during his tenure, including a national championship in 2004. Women’s soccer is about to begin a return trip to the NCAA Tournament, where it advanced to the Sweet 16 last year, a Big West Conference first. The men’s basketball program has posted consecutive winning seasons for the first time in two decades and the women’s basketball and volleyball programs are on the upswing.

Quinn is in demand from the Big West and the NCAA for committee work. He is in his second year on the NCAA Division I baseball committee, serving as the western region chair and on the umpiring subcommittee. For the Big West, he serves on the executive committee and the game management committee and chairs the baseball and officiating committees.
