Prospective doctoral students are being invited to learn about Cal State Fullerton’s doctoral program in educational leadership at an informational meeting at 7 p.m. Dec. 14 in Room 335 of University Hall.
Louise Adler, director of the Ed.D. program and chair and professor of educational leadership, will conduct the meeting. She said classes will begin next fall and student applications are being accepted through March 30.
Adler said students accepted in the first year of the program can choose to specialize in preK-12 leadership. The university is planning to offer a second specialization in community college leadership in a subsequent year.
CSU trustees in November passed a resolution establishing the CSU Educational Doctorate State University Fee for students entering the new program. The law establishing the independent doctorate for the CSU authorized the university to charge a fee consistent with the graduate student fee charged by UC in order to pay for the higher costs of such a program. For 2007-08, that fee will be $6,987 and will apply to all students in the program.
The mission of the Ed.D. program is to prepare informed educational leaders who ethically apply critical skills of evaluation, analysis, synthesis, and action to ensure excellence and equity in educational practice, Adler said.
Plans call for 15 students to be accepted into the three-year program each fall.
Adler said two classes — “Statistics for Ed.D. Students” (EDD 910 ) and “Doctoral Strategies” (EDD 920) — are being offered in the spring to introduce prospective doctoral students to the knowledge and skills needed to be successful in a doctoral program. However, enrollment in the classes is not required to gain admittance into the program.
