Elahe Amani: “One Book, One Community”Program

Elahe Amani, student affairs director of technology, will provide commentary and context to a Sept. 30 screening of the film “Kandahar” at the Fullerton Public Library.

The film follows an Afghan-born Canadian journalist who returns to her homeland in a desperate attempt to reach her sister who threatens suicide because of her circumstances under the Taliban. The 2:30 p.m. screening is one of nine events hosted by the library as part of their “One Book, One Community” campaign.
           
Amani, a member of the campus community since 1999, has served as chair of the Coalition of Women from Asia and the Middle East and a member of the Women’s Intercultural Network (WIN).  In 2001, the Iranian-born Amani was honored by Soroptimist International of Westminster as one of it’s Women of Distinction for her efforts on behalf of the human rights status of women.
