Gift of Life Run/Walk at Cal State Fullerton April 17

What/When: The second annual Gift of Life Run/Walk will be held at Cal State Fullerton Saturday, April 17, to benefit OneLegacy, the procurement agency for donated organs in Southern California, and to celebrate National Donate Life Month. The event features a noncompetitive 5K run, 5K walk and 1K fitness run.
   
Who: The event is organized by Cal State Fullerton alumni Kathleen (B.A. liberal studies ’98) and Craig (B.A. business administration-accounting ’83) Hostert. Fullerton Mayor Mike Clesceri is serving as honorary chairman.
   
Where: All three events begin and end on the Engineering and Computer Science Lawn, and the courses wind through the Cal State Fullerton campus.
   
Schedule: 7:30 a.m. – Registration
8:30 a.m. – Recognition ceremony for organ donor families and living donors
Rex Hudler and David Eckstein of the Anaheim Angels are scheduled speakers.
                        9:05 a.m. – 5K walk begins
                        9:20 a.m. – 1K fitness run begins
   
Activities: Warm-up exercises will be led by members of the Los Angeles Laker Girls. The band Time Flies and KIIS-FM will provide music. After the races, food will be available and an information fair will be held. More than 42 vendors will be on hand passing out educational information and conducting fitness and blood pressure tests. The OneLegacy Bridging Lives donor quilt will be on display.
   
Cost: he cost is $25 for runners and walkers; $15 for all students with ID; $10 for children under 12; $15 for organ donors, recipients, donor families and dialysis patients; $50 for a family of 4 (each additional person is $10); and $100 for a team of 5 (each additional person is $15). Registration is available online at www.giftoflifeoc.org  or at 7:30 a.m. on race day. All registered participants receive a free T-shirt.
   
Quote: There are more than 89,000 people on the organ transplant waiting list,” said Kathleen Hostert, event director. “We want to convey to the people on the list that there is hope out there, and we will continue to educate as many people as we can about the importance of organ donation and talking to your family about your wishes.”
