Students to Celebrate Engineering Week

What/When: Cal State Fullerton kicks off Engineering and Computer Science Week Feb. 23-26 with a slate of activities designed to foster student participation in clubs, promote career planning, and welcome prospective engineers and computer enthusiasts from local high schools. The event is held annually in conjunction with National Engineers Week and Engineering and Computer Science Week.

Where: Most activities are scheduled for the Engineering and Computer Science Quad.

Feb. 23 Graduates of the College of Engineering and Computer Science will meet with students and faculty members during an Alumni Mentor Luncheon at the Golleher Alumni House. Students will have the opportunity for networking, obtaining advice about their majors and directions in their careers. Alumni from SBC, the U.S. Navy, Boeing, BV Engineering, Engineering Resources of Southern California, Delphi Engineering and Parasoft are slated to attend.

Feb. 24 Student engineering clubs will be recruiting new members with various activities and displays during Discover Engineering and Computer Science Day from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. During the event, students will compete in a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, while others display their projects.

Feb. 25 Approximately 350 students from six local high schools will be on campus for a MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement) competition. High school students will be testing balsa wood bridges, flying gliders, competing in a Web page design contest, making technical presentations and displaying homegrown crystals.

Feb. 26 Approximately 20 companies will be recruiting at a Career Fair from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Students will have the opportunity to visit with company representatives and learn about employment opportunities and internships in engineering and computer science fields.

Displays: Engineering and computer science projects will be on display at the Pollak Library through mid-March. Highlights include a concrete canoe, human-powered vehicle, impromptu design vehicles and computer science projects.
