Cal State Fullerton Offers Summer Programs for Youth

Looking to keep the kids busy this summer?

Cal State Fullerton’s University Extended Education, Athletics, Recreational Sports and Fullerton Arboretum offer multiple alternatives to a summer spent watching television or playing computer games.

For children who are artistically inclined, or would like to be, the UEE’s popular Art Camp is available in two- and three-week programs. For children ages 7-12 and teens 13-15, a two-week program is offered June 28-July 9 in either all-day (9 a.m.-4 p.m.) or extended-day (7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.) options. The three-week program runs July 12-30, also available in all-day or extended-day options.

For children hoping to get a head start on the next school year, UEE offers various classes in math, including “Pre-Algebra Basics” Aug. 16-20, “Algebra I Problem Solving” Aug. 16-20, “Basic Math Skills” Aug. 9-13 and “Math Skills and Problem Solving” Aug. 9-13. In addition, “Brush Up on Those Grammar and Writing Skills!” will be offered July 12-16, “Web Page Design” July 19-23 and “Conversational Spanish” July 26-Aug. 6.

Additional information on UEE’s programs can be obtained by calling 657-278-2796.

Athletics is offering the Bob Burton Basketball Camp June 28-July 2 and July 19-23 for boys ages 8-17. The staff for the camp includes Burton, Cal State Fullerton’s men’s basketball head coach, as well as former and current players and other guest lecturers. Athletics also is offering the Fullerton Futbol Academy July 12-16. The soccer camp will be held in two sessions, one for children ages 7-12 and another for teens 13-18. Additional information on the camps is available by calling 657-278-3711.

Recreational Sports offers three programs for school-age children. Titan Youth Sports Camp has eight sessions scheduled June 14-Aug. 6 for children in kindergarten through 8th grade. Morning-only and full-day sessions are available. Learn to Swim Camp offers seven levels of swimming ability during five sessions June 14-Aug. 8. Monday-Friday and Saturday-Sunday sessions are taught in 30-minute instruction blocks. Private swimming lessons also are available by appointment.

Boys and girls ages 5-14 can sign up for Gymnastics Camp, which runs Aug. 9-13. Extended-day options also are available during this camp. For information on any of the three Recreational Sports camps, call 657-278-PLAY or visit http://asi.fullerton.edu.

The Fullerton Arboretum will host “Arboretum Adventures Summer Science Camp” in four sessions July 12-Aug. 2. There are also separate sessions for children 6 years old, children 7-11 and those 12-14. Morning-only and all-day sessions are available. Additional information about the arboretum’s camp can be obtained by calling 657-278-3407.

Costs for all classes and camps vary by program. Programs tend to fill up quickly; early registration is encouraged.
