Cal State Fullerton Graduate Student Wins National Design Honor

In addition to winning the national Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival Lighting Design Award (officially titled the “National Barbizon Lighting Design Award”) this month in Washington, D.C., Cal State Fullerton graduate student Nathan Jones has been invited to participate in a National Portfolio Review in New York at the Lincoln Center May 28-30.

Jones will attend as an observer and was awarded $500 plus travel, lodging, per diem and tickets to two New York productions. In addition, he was awarded a full fellowship to attend the KCACTF “Summer Intensive” in lighting design with designer Beverly Emmons, July 5-17 at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. A Fullerton resident, Jones is studying in the design and technical production concentration as part of the master of fine arts in theatre arts degree program.

In related news, graduate student Stephanie Routman, currently directing CSUF’s production of “Andorra” in its West Coast premiere (playing in the Arena Theatre through May 2), has been offered a director position for the two-week “The Collaborate Process” workshop with national theatre leaders Ming Cho Lee and Constance Hoffman from July 5-17 in at the Kennedy Center.

Fullerton resident Routman is pursuing a master of fine arts in theatre arts with a concentration in directing. She will join seven other directors, faculty members and students who have been invited to participate in an intensive master class, in association with participants of the KCACTF Scenic Design and Costume Design Summer Intensives. Additional sessions will be held with noted playwrights Marsha Norman, Arthur Kopit, Less Blessing and others.
