Titan Students Among the Tops in Movie Marketing Competition

Amidst the entertainment industry’s best motion picture marketers, Placentia resident Brian Lee Growe recently won second place honors in the student competition of the Hollywood Reporter’s 32nd annual Key Art Awards — which salutes achievements in motion picture marketing and advertising.

Growe, a junior majoring in art, was presented his award — including $2,500 — by Marc Shmuger, vice chairman of Universal Pictures, for his entry in the trailer (movie preview) category. Recent BFA in art graduate Jose A. “Joe” Casillas of Chino captured third place and $1,000 in the one-sheet (poster) category. Six students were awarded cash prizes, to be split between the winners and their schools.

Students created their posters or trailers for either “A Beautiful Mind” (Growe and Casillas) or “Moulin Rouge.” The competition received more than 300 submissions from 28 colleges and design schools in California and New York.

The Key Art Awards were launched in 1972 to honor the accomplishments of art directors, designers, illustrators, photographers and copywriters responsible for developing the art used in motion picture marketing and promotion.
