Background:

Conductor Kimo Furumoto continues to lead the University Orchestra at California State University, Fullerton, brining it to new musical and academic heights. In addition to Furumoto’s responsibilities at Cal State Fullerton, he is music director/conductor of the Huntington Symphony Orchestra in West Virginia. He has been music director of the Concert Orchestra at the University of Cincinnati, College Conservatory of Music, guest assistant conductor with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and served as associate conductor of the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra and the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra. He has appeared as guest conductor with orchestras both in the United States and Europe, and has worked with noted conductors such as Leonard Bernstein and Robert Shaw.

The University Singers have a long and distinguished reputation as one of the United States’ finest collegiate vocal ensembles, and have performed for numerous national conventions, represented the United States at the first symposium of the International Federation for Choral Music in Vienna and have made appearances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Zubin Mehta and Carlo Maria Giulini, with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra under the direction of John Mauceri, and with the Pacific Symphony under the direction of Carl St. Clair. Last December marked the fifth consecutive national holiday tour with the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra led by Keith Lockhart. Director John Alexander is conductor of the University Singers and Chamber Choir and oversees the graduate and undergraduate conducting programs. He is artistic director and conductor of the Pacific Chorale and has held guest conducting engagements with the National Philharmonic of Belgium, L’Orchester Lamoureaux de Paris, the Estonian National Symphony, the Central Philharmonic of Beijing and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra.
