Background:

The University Wind Ensemble, acclaimed for its broad repertoire and excellence, regularly performs works ranging from contemporary chamber literature by composers including Ticheli, Persichetti and Dello Joio to traditional concert band music by Sousa and Post. In 2003, the ensemble toured Japan performing in Tokyo, at the Yamaha musical instrument faculty near Hamamatsu, and for the Japan Band Director’s Association annual clinic at Nemo-No-Sato. They have also performed at the Fourth of July Celebration in Ribald, Denmark and were invited to perform in Moscow for the 125th anniversary of the Moscow Conservatoire of Music.

Larry Curtis is a distinguished educator and professional conductor. His diverse musical background is exemplified by his recent guest conducting engagements with the Pacific Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, an “Imagination Celebration” concert in conjunction with New York’s Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, a live concert broadcast from Suisse Romane Studios in Geneva, Switzerland, a command performance for the “Society for the Preservation of Film Music” and at the Hollywood Bowl. Curtis is a recognized authority on wind band literature with an international reputation spanning Japan to Australia.
