The Capitol Steps claims to be the only singing group in the nation funnier than Congress to have performed before the past five Presidents.

Composed of both former and current congressional aides from Washington, DC, this wickedly funny comedy troupe performs bipartisan musical parodies lampooning elected officials, popular culture and the juiciest scandals-du-jour.
With the current shenanigans in Washington the group is never at a loss for subjects to parody. They create brilliantly witty new lyrics for popular or well-known songs, satirizing such things as the rise in gasoline prices in “What Kind Of Fuel Am I” (from their 2001 recording “One Bush, Two Bush, Old Bush, New Bush”).

Since their humble beginnings in 1981 as holiday party entertainment, The Capitol Steps have become the country’s favorite “political cabaret” with performances in nearly all 50 states in addition to regular Georgetown stints at Chelsea’s. They’ve made countless television appearances on everything from “Good Morning, America” to “The Late Show with David Letterman” and are frequent guests on National Public Radio. The group, which often appears Off-Broadway in New York City, has produced 23 recordings of songs and sketches. Annual recordings during the current Bush administration include such titles as “Between Iraq and a Hard Place” and “When Bush Comes to Shove.”

Elaina Newport, Bill Strauss and Jim Aidala created The Capitol Steps during the Reagan Administration by reasoning that if entertainers could become politicians, then politicians could become entertainers.

This is the fourth appearance by The Capitol Steps on Cal State Fullerton’s PAIR Celebrity Series. Due to the group’s popularity ticket availability is extremely limited so early purchase is advised.
