Background: |
Ten years ago, four friends got together to
create a rollicking little musical called “Suds”
to do for 1960s girl singers what the hit “Forever Plaid”
did for 1950s guy singers.
Utilizing over 50 well known, chart topping hit songs from
the 1960s, “Suds” spins the saga of a lonely Laundromat
lass and the guardian angels who teach her to find true love.
Among the score’s many hits are “Where The Boys
Are” (Connie Francis), “These Boots Are Made For
Walkin’” (Nancy Sinatra), “Respect”
(Aretha Franklin), “I Feel Good” (James Brown)
and “Do You Want To Know A Secret” (The Beatles).
“Suds” received rave reviews from coast to coast,
breaking many box office records at theatres like the prestigious
Old Globe Theater, Actors Theatre of Louisville and the San
Diego Repertory Theater.
This nationally touring production was mounted in response
to the current ’60s revival as evidenced by television’s
series “American Dreams” and Broadway’s
Tony Award-winning musical “Hairspray.” It is
directed by co-creator Bryan Scott and choreographed by its
original choreographer Javier Velasco. The production features
costume design by Warden Neil and scenic design by Amanda
Stephens. The cast includes Rita Carey, Erin Cronican, Jessa
Watson and Corey Greenan.
In addition to its Fullerton appearance, which kicks off
the national tour, “Suds” will also be presented
April 17 at the Annenberg Theater (Palm Springs), April 18
at Citrus College (Azusa) and April 25 at Pepperdine University
(Malibu) before heading out of state.
