Background:

Joining in the performance of this early work, written between 1799 and 1800, from Beethoven are Ernest Salem*, violin; Carolyn Riley, viola; Trevor Handy, cello; David Black, bass; Håkan Rosengren*, clarinet; Todd Miller*, horn and Kenneth Munday*, bassoon. These acclaimed southern California chamber musicians offer one of Beethoven’s elegant and charming popular works.

Violinist Ernest Salem* performed in concerts and recitals across the United States locally performing with the Los Angeles Mozart Orchestra, Long Beach Symphony, Asia American Orchestra and South Coast Symphony. Salem has been first violinist with Wichita State’s Fairmount Quartet, a member of the College of St. Benedict’s chamber ensemble “Pastiche,” and violinist with New Mexico State’s Delphian Trio. Currently he is violinist with the Premiere Trio at CSUF.

Violinist Carolyn Riley has been heard on numerous classical, pop and movie soundtracks. She is a member of the Pacific Symphony Orchestra and is active as a chamber musician.

Cellist Trevor Handy performs regularly with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Long Beach Symphony, and Los Angeles Opera Orchestra in addition to numerous ensembles throughout the Southland.

David Black is a member of the bass section with the Pacific Symphony Orchestra, and performs throughout Southern California.

Håkan Rosengren*, clarinet appears regularly as soloist with European orchestras including the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, Prague Philharmonic, Porto Chamber Orchestra, Swedish Radio Symphony, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Amadeus Chamber Orchestra, among others. He has performed at chamber music festivals in Santa Fe, La Jolla, and Round Top Texas, won numerous awards, and given recitals in China, Korea, the U.S. and throughout Europe.

Todd Miller*, horn is principal timpanist with the Pacific Symphony, and regularly performs both percussion and French horn with other orchestras in the Los Angeles area, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Miller can be heard on an extensive number of movie soundtracks maintaining an active schedule in recording studios.

Kenneth Munday* has been principal bassoonist with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra since 1977, and has appeared as soloist with the orchestra on numerous occasions in collaboration with Sir Neville Marriner, Iona Brown, Placido Domingo and Jeffrey Kahane among others. In recent years, Munday has played in many period-instrument ensembles, including the Portland Baroque Orchestra, the Los Angeles Baroque Orchestra, the Philadelphia Classical Orchestra, Pacific Classical Winds, and Musica Angelica.
