Science, Math Student Research Focus of Colloquium

Who/What:

“Showcase of Student Talent” is the focus of Cal State Fullerton’s April 24 College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics Colleagues Colloquium. Science and math undergraduate and graduate students will present poster research projects on topics ranging from gravitational-wave physics research and study of a large mountain range formation in Thailand, to training gifted young students in math. The event is open to the public.

When:

Tuesday, April 24
7 a.m. registration, 7:30-9 a.m. program

Where:

Fullerton Marriott, southeast corner of the Cal State Fullerton campus
2701 E. Nutwood Ave, Fullerton, 92831

Why:

“Faculty-student research is a vital component of the education students receive in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics,” said Robert A. Koch, acting dean of the college. “Students involved in faculty research projects tend to be more engaged in their studies, perform better in the classroom and demonstrate greater understanding of concepts taught in upper-division science courses. Evaluations of undergraduate research programs suggest that offering these students opportunities to participate in research can become one of the most significant tools for increasing the number and quality of math and science graduates,” he added. The math and science focus also reflects Cal State Fullerton’s heightened emphasis on increasing student interest in the STEM fields.

Cost:

$10 for the public; free for Colleagues members. Reservations are requested and seating is limited. RSVP online or 657-278-2638. Tickets available at the door.
