Faculty Scholar Assesses Entertainment Education Approach

Health scientist Michele Mouttapa will speak April 25 at Cal State Fullerton on reducing bullying. Her talk is the College of Health and Human Development Faculty Scholar Lecture, “An Entertainment Education Approach to Reduce Bullying Among an Ethnically Diverse Sample of Fourth and Fifth Graders.” It is open to the public free of charge.

Mouttapa’s lecture focuses on her evaluation of retired schoolteacher Bob Morphis’ “Bully for You,” an interactive, 50-minute theatrical production. In the production, performed as a school assembly, characters, acting as students, role play different bullying situations. Mouttapa evaluated how fourth- and fifth-grade students reacted to the production and will present her results during the lecture.

Background:     

An assistant professor of health science, Mouttapa has a doctorate in preventive medicine, health behavior research from USC. She has published numerous journal articles and made conference presentations on such topics as youth violence, adolescent smoking, alcohol, drug abuse, maternal and child health, and adolescent sexual and reproductive health.
