Students Participate in National Program to Promote Autism Awareness

What:
Cal State Fullerton students are taking part in the “Light It Up Blue” worldwide campaign to support autism awareness, lighting up the Titan Student Union with a “flip the switch” ceremony at sundown Monday, April 2. A movie screening and panel discussion also are scheduled during the month.

Other Activities:
April 4
7-8:30 p.m. — Screening of the movie “Wretches & Jabberers” in Portola Pavilion C of the Titan Student Union. The movie depicts two men with autism who are non-verbal and their adventures traveling around the world, helping to change others’ views.
April 17
7:30-9:30 p.m. — “Autism & Communication,” with Erica Howell, assistant professor of special education; Debra Brunner, a lecturer in human communication studies; and Rebbecca Gough, a young adult with autism who will provide insight into the condition. Howell conducted her doctoral training on student/teacher relationships for children with disabilities, high-functioning autism and Asperger's syndrome. Portola Pavilion B, Titan Student Union
Background:
During the week of April 2-6 various landmarks throughout the world, including the Sydney Opera House, Empire State Building and Niagara Falls, will be bathed in blue light to remind people of the fight to help those with autism.
