Who/What:
Pedro Noguera, the Peter L. Agnew Professor of Education at New York University, will discuss how African American parents can prepare their children to pursue a college education, at the 15th annual Parent and Student Educational Symposium, “Why We Can’t Wait,” sponsored by the Council of African American Parents at Cal State Fullerton. CSUF President Milton A. Gordon will provide opening remarks and welcome participants to campus.

Background:
Noguera is an urban sociologist with a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley and teaching credential from Brown University. His scholarship and research focus on how schools are influenced by social and economic conditions in the urban environment. He has advised and engaged in collaborative research with several large, urban school districts throughout the United States and authored five books and hundreds of articles. Noguera is a regular commentator on CNN, NPR and other national news outlets.

Other Speakers:
Dawn Valencia, CSUF director of university outreach, will provide information on preparation for higher education, and Chuck Moore, director of enrollment management at the CSUF Irvine Campus, will serve as instructor for the junior/senior workshop.
