Tournament Nets $72,000

Mihaylo Golf Classic Celebrates First Hole-in-One

Business leaders from throughout the county recently gathered for a day of golf action at the Aliso Viejo Country Club for the annual Mihaylo Golf Classic. Their participation in the Cal State Fullerton June fundraiser netted $72,000 for student scholarships and academic program support.

In a milestone for the tournament, one golfer walked away with a new automobile after he made a hole-in-one — the first ever for the tournament, which debuted in 1995.

Tony Saucedo, director of private equity services with McGladrey, was playing as part of the Northern Trust foursome when he scored a hole-in-one at the 16th hole. Saucedo won a 2011 Cruze provided by Connell Chevrolet.

The scramble-style tournament was won by the Deloitte & Touche foursome of CSUF alumni Eric Openshaw (B.A. business administration-marketing ’77), vice chairman and U.S. technology leader for Deloitte & Touche, and Greg Waller (B.A. political science ’72, MBA ’78) of Endologix Inc.; Rob Lingle; and Openshaw’s son, Adam, of RJT Compuquest.

“This year's golf classic was the best ever in our 17-year history,” said tournament chair and alumnus Dennis Ciolli (B.A. business administration-accounting ’76) of DLC & Associates. “Our net this year was a record, and one of our players won a car for his 180-yard hole-in-one!”

Sponsors of the Mihaylo Golf Classic include: Crexendo Web Marketing Services, Wood Gutmann & Bogart Insurance Brokers, Southern Counties Lubricants, Morongo Casino Resort & Spa, PricewaterhouseCoopers and R.D. Olson Construction.
