Cultural, Special Celebrations Planned for 2011 Graduating Students

As Cal State Fullerton students put the finishing touches on spring semester projects and prepare for finals, the university kicks off the commencement season with a series of special events in recognition of those completing their degrees and credentials.
Among the festivities scheduled in May:
- Saturday, May 7, 2-4 p.m. — Asian and Pacific Islander Graduate Recognition Ceremony in Portola Pavilion of the Titan Student Union. For more information, contact Argus Tong at atong@fullerton.edu.
- Thursday, May 12, 7-9 p.m. — LGBT Pride Recognition Ceremony in Portola Pavilion of the Titan Student Union. Guest speaker is former State Senate and Assembly member Sheila Kuehl, president of Kuehl Consulting, co-author of “Safe At School: Addressing the School Environment and LGBT Safety Through Policy and Legislation,” co-trainer for the Institute for Elected Women: California and a Distinguished Policy Fellow at the UCLA School of Public Affairs. - Friday, May 13, 6-8 p.m. — Pilipino American Graduation Celebration in Portola Pavilion of the Titan Student Union. Guest speaker is Roselyn Estepa Ibanez, a member of the Filipino American Library Board, Los Angeles County Community Action Board and Carson’s Ad Hoc Organizing Committee to Establish a Civic Engagement Board. - Saturday, May 14, noon-2 p.m. — Pan-African Student Recognition Ceremony on the lawn adjacent to the Engineering and Computer Science complex. For more information, email aafsa@fullerton.edu.
- Saturday, May 14, 5:30-8 p.m. — Chicano/Latino Graduation Celebration in Portola Pavilion of the Titan Student Union. Event includes dinner. Cost is free for graduates; guests may purchase tickets for $30 at the Chicano Resource Center in Room 171 of the Pollak Library. - Friday, May 20, 10 a.m. — ROTC Commissioning Ceremony on the lawn of the Engineering and Computer Science complex. Guest speaker is retired Maj. Gen. Paul E. - Friday, May 20, 5 p.m. — Credential Commencement Ceremony in Titan Gym. Wendy Agredano of Anaheim, who is completing her studies for a multiple subject credential, will address her fellow students in the credential program. - Friday, May 20, 7-10 p.m. — Honors Convocation in the Meng Concert Hall of the university’s Clayes Performing Arts Center.
- Saturday and Sunday, May 21-22 — Cal State Fullerton’s 2011 Commencement ceremonies are held throughout campus beginning at 8 a.m. both days on the lawn north of Titan Gym, 800 N. State College Blvd., Fullerton, 92831. The commencement website lists details of the individual college-based exercises.
Parking Information:
Monday through Friday, on-campus parking is $8 per vehicle. Short-term parking also is available. Parking lot and permit machine locations are posted online: http://parking.fullerton.edu/Parking/ParkingLots.aspx.
On commencement weekend, beginning at 5 p.m. May 20, parking will be free. Saturday and Sunday, May 21-22, parking will be limited and restricted to carpools of three or more persons per vehicle. Late arrivals or cars with fewer than three people will be directed to off-campus parking areas.
