Getting the Word Out on College

Cal State Fullerton President to Address Congregation in Norwalk

Cal State Fullerton President Milton A. Gordon will address congregants Sunday, Feb. 27, at the New Covenant Baptist Church in Norwalk as part of a California State University effort to encourage early planning for college and the involvement of community members as mentors for young people.

Gordon is scheduled to speak at 8:30 a.m. at New Covenant Baptist Church, 10843 Kenney St., Norwalk, 90650.

Each Sunday this month, CSU leaders, including the chancellor, trustees, university presidents and administrators, are reaching out to more than 100,000 families at churches throughout the state to encourage early preparation — as early as middle school — for college.

Now in its sixth year, the CSU “Super Sunday” campaign has grown to more than 100 churches.

Super Sunday is part of the CSU African American Initiative, which strives to find new ways to educate youth and parents about the value of a college degree and the steps to get to college. In addition to Super Sunday, the CSU African American Initiative includes a yearlong schedule of events, including Super Saturday education fairs held in August.
