What:
High school economics instructors will attend a free program Saturday, Jan. 29, at Cal State Fullerton on international economic issues, such as the U.S. trade deficit, challenges to the Euro, and China as a global economic power. The International Education Showcase is sponsored by the university’s Center for Economic Education in the Mihaylo College of Business and Economics.
Who:
Sean Flynn, author of “Economics for Dummies” and co-author of “Economics: Principles, Problems and Policies” is the program presenter. The assistant professor of economics at Scripps College in Claremont earned his doctorate in economics from UC Berkeley, where he completed his dissertation under the supervision of 2001 Nobel Laureate George Akerlof.

Background:
The Center for Economic Education was established to promote economic literacy in K-12 schools, institutions of higher learning and in the larger community. The center pursues this objective through curriculum development and consultation, workshops and courses, materials dissemination and education research. The center also conducts research in economic education and provides an online stock market simulation for classes in fifth-to-12th grades.

The Jan. 29 program is underwritten by the Council for Economic Education as part of the Cooperative Education Exchange Program. CEEP is funded by the U.S. Department of Education, in coordination with the U.S. Department of State.
