Campus Hosts Fibromyalgia Awareness Day Event

Holistic health seminars will highlight Cal State Fullerton’s May 7 “Celebrate Life” event. The free event is being held in observance of Fibromyalgia Awareness Day. The public is welcome.

Schedule:
12:45 p.m.
Faith E. Leuschen, a chiropractor and owner of Total Body Balance of Manhattan Beach, delivers the keynote address on nerve compression, fibromyalgia and other neurologic conditions.
2-5 p.m.
Cal State Fullerton faculty members C. Jessie Jones, Laura Zettel-Watson, Carter Rakovski and Paul Gluch and other experts will offer seminars on caregiver support, stress-busting tips and alternative healing therapies, such as acupuncture and sound therapy. HealthRHYTHMS, an interactive, research-based, recreational music-making workshop that helps reduce stress and stimulate creativity and spirituality, will be offered. A support group session designed specifically for family members, loved ones and friends of individuals affected by fibromyalgia will be conducted as well.
5-7 p.m.
Reception for attendees features entertainment and raffle for prizes, including a laptop computer and rink-side tickets to an Anaheim Ducks game.
Why:
“This is an annual event to promote awareness and let the public know that the university’s Fibromyalgia Research and Education Center exists and provides innovative and alternative interventions for managing symptoms and promoting health,” said C. Jessie Jones, professor of health science and founder and director of the center. “The center opened in 2007 and has studied thousands of people suffering with fibromyalgia and other overlapping medical conditions to devise the interventions.”
