Building a Legacy of Peace

Former United Nations Official Discusses Global Project

Joanne Tawfilis, a retired United Nations executive, will discuss her global Art Miles Mural Project, which supports the United Nations’ mandate for a decade of peace and nonviolence among the children of the world, Thursday, April 28, at Cal State Fullerton’s Irvine Campus.

The 6-7 p.m. presentation is part of the campus’s Legacies Program, an activity that spotlights individuals who have made a difference in the world.

Tawfilis’ project combines the artistic efforts of children and adults worldwide through the creation of murals that focus on peace and understanding. Highlighting her talk will be the presentation of 12 murals created on the campus. The murals will be on display throughout the building.

As part of the Art Miles Mural Project on campus, international students and other participants in the campus’s Legacies Program have conducted several projects throughout the year, including “Shoes of Hope,” in which shoes are donated for painting by student “peace paint ambassadors,” then shipped internationally to children in need. Students from the university’s main and branch campuses donated their time and efforts to complete more than 200 pairs of shoes during the academic year.

The CSUF Irvine Campus is located at 3 Banting, Irvine, 92618.
