Editor Tony Ortega Talks About Award-Winning Newspaper

Cal State Fullerton’s College of Communications Alumni Chapter and the Hispanic/Latino Alumni Chapter are hosting a presentation by alumnus Tony Ortega, editor in chief of The Village Voice, who will speak about the alternative newspaper and his career, as part of the university’s Hispanic Heritage Month celebration. The public is invited to attend.

Who:            
Ortega has been editor in chief of The Village Voice since 2007. Prior to that, he worked for Village Voice Media newspapers in Phoenix, Los Angeles, Kansas City and south Florida. Originally from Los Angeles, he started with the company at the Phoenix New Times in 1995 and was named Arizona’s Journalist of the Year in 1996 for his work exposing corruption in Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s Maricopa County offices. He earned his bachelor’s degree in 1987 and master’s degree in 1989 — both in English — from Cal State Fullerton.

The Village Voice, founded in 1955, is the recipient of three Pulitzer prizes, the National Press Foundation Award and the George Polk Award. It has earned a reputation for its groundbreaking investigations of New York City politics and expertise on New York’s cultural scene.
