Marketing to the 50+ Consumer

Panel Presentation Explores How to Target, Reach This Demographic

What:
Cal State Fullerton’s Department of Marketing sponsors a Friday, Nov. 4, panel discussion about marketing to the 50+ consumer — 40 percent of the American population. The discussion is open to the public free of charge.

Who:
Panelists include: Joe Burke, founder and CEO of Denizen USA Corp.; Echo Chang, director of self-supported degree programs in Cal State Fullerton’s University Extended Education who has doctorate in gerontology and 15 years of experience in marketing; David Kobrinetz, lecturer in gerontology at USC; and Jacqueline Lauder, director of education for the Council on Aging-Orange County.

When:
Friday, Nov. 4
2-3:30 p.m.

Where:
Steven G. Mihaylo Hall
Cal State Fullerton, 800 N. State College Blvd., Fullerton, 92831

Parking:
Parking is on the top level of the Fullerton Marriott parking structure at the corner of Nutwood Avenue and Folino Drive. Cost is $8.

Why:
“Advertiser dollars and the media focus on the ever-popular 18-24-year-old-market segment, but they may be ignoring the larger, wealthier and potentially more loyal mature consumer market,” said Susan Cadwallader, associate professor of marketing. “In addition, the public, in general, is often guilty of lumping the Baby Boomers into a mono-market. However, a rich variety of demographic, psychographics and lifespan differences must be carefully considered when making appeals to this market.”

More Info:
The panel discussion kicks off the Department of Marketing’s “50 Plus Consumer Market Studies” initiative in the Mihaylo College of Business and Economics. Through partnerships with businesses, nonprofit and government agencies, this cross-campus and multidisciplinary initiative will seek to better understand and serve the needs of the mature consumer, said Cadwallader.
