ESPN Recruiters Seek Titans for Jobs

Career Center Hosts Oct. 27 Information Sessions

What:
ESPN recruiters are coming to Cal State Fullerton to meet with students and recent CSUF graduates about the multimedia sports entertainment company’s internship programs and entry-level job and career opportunities. Two information sessions will be held, including one presented in Spanish. Cal State Fullerton is one of 15 universities nationwide targeted by ESPN for the company’s fall and winter recruiting sessions.

When/Where:
Thursday, Oct. 27
1:15-2:30 p.m. in Mihaylo Hall’s O’Brien Innovation Center
Spanish-language session targeting Spanish-speaking individuals

6-8 p.m. in Titan Student Union’s Portola Pavilion
Session open to all CSUF students and recent CSUF graduates includes presentation about ESPN, a panel discussion with ESPN recruiters and breakout sessions with ESPN representatives.

Who:
Joe Franco, ESPN’s manager of university relations, and a team of 13 ESPN representatives from various departments, including content and media production, business, sales and finance, will be on campus.

Why:
“Despite the poor economy and difficult job climate, Cal State Fullerton has continued to build its reputation among the state’s and nation’s employers, and as a result, we are one of the first campuses they think of to come to and recruit our students,” said Sean Gil, Career Center associate director. “Having ESPN on campus to recruit our student means that we have the high-caliber students that a leading global employer seeks to hire.”

Laura Neal, Career Center industry specialist for arts, entertainment and communications, added that this recruiting event is a unique opportunity for students to meet face-to-face with representatives from the sports entertainment company to get the information they need to prepare, apply for and land a job or internship. “This event is a way for students to informally network so recruiters remember their face and name when they apply for a job.”

Background:
For the past three years, the Career Center has been hosting an ESPN representative on campus from the company’s Stats & Information Group, which hires statistics students with elite sports knowledge, Gil said. Most recently, CSUF students have been hired at ESPN as interns, production assistants and associate producers, and for various business-related jobs. This event will provide students with opportunities in all ESPN job functions, he added.

Spanish-Language Session:
With the university’s Hispanic student population at 32 percent and CSUF designated by the U.S. Department of Education as a Hispanic-Serving Institution, students might be especially interested in the global opportunities and expansion of “ESPN Deportes” and other Spanish-language programming in Los Angeles and Latin America, Gil added. (The U.S. Department of Education defines Hispanic-Serving Institutions as eligible institutions of higher education that have at least 25 percent Hispanic full-time equivalent undergraduate enrollment.)

ESPN recruiters also will meet with the following student groups during special sessions in Mihaylo Hall’s O’Brien Innovation Center, except where noted:
