Bringing Science to the Stadium

‘Physics of Football’ Author to Speak Dec. 3 at CSUF

Who/What:
Physicist Tim Gay, known for his one-minute stadium lectures before thousands of University of Nebraska football fans, will share his brand of science — including demonstrations — during a free, public lecture at Cal State Fullerton.

When:
Friday, Dec. 3
1-2 p.m.

Where:
Cal State Fullerton’s McCarthy Hall, Room 121 (seating is limited)
800 N. State College Blvd., Fullerton, 92831-3599

More:
The author of “Physics of Football” (HarperCollins, 2005) offered his 60-second lectures, via big screen, during breaks in the action in Memorial Stadium in the years 1999-2004. Gay spoke on such topics as Newton’s Laws of Motion (blocking and tackling), projectile motion (kicking and punting), kinematics (open-field running) and the ideal gas law (why not fill a football with helium for better hang time?). Gay has been featured on ABC, ESPN, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Boston Globe, Washington Post and People Magazine.
