Quote:
“Our Legacies Program has teamed up for this unifying day of art to give our Irvine Campus students the opportunity to contribute to the worldwide mural creation effort and as a way of encouraging involvement and volunteerism within our community,” said Marsha Daughetee, CSUF Irvine Campus assistant dean for student affairs.

Background:
The Art Miles Mural Project is a global art effort consisting of more than 5,000 murals painted by children and adults from countries all over the world. The 5-by-12 finished murals draw their inspiration from 12 themes designed to create global harmony by people working together in a non-threatening and non-political environment, Daughetee said. Fouad and Joanne Tawfilis founded the murals project 12 years ago.

Legacies:
The CSUF Irvine Campus Legacies Program, supported by Associated Students Inc., was launched five years ago to bring to campus inspirational speakers who epitomize the power an individual has in making significant change in his or her community. The Legacies effort also will host a weeklong program in the spring that focuses on the Art Miles Mural Project. Planned activities include unveiling of the “hero” mural, designed and created by Irvine Campus students, depicting featured Legacies speakers.

Admission:
The mural painting is free for Cal State Fullerton students with identification, preschool-age children and K-12 students wearing their school apparel. The event also features an Art Miles Fun Walk on Oso Creek Trails. Cost is $20 and fees benefit the Art Miles Mural Project. Visit www.eventbrite.com for registration information.
