What:
While some experts say the recession ended in June 2009, many former workers are still struggling to find jobs. Is there light at the end of the economic tunnel? Area business leaders will be looking ahead Oct. 28 during the 2010 Economic Forecast Conference sponsored by Cal State Fullerton’s Mihaylo College of Business and Economics and the Orange County Business Council. Following the economic forecast will be special, free session on China’s development and outlook, featuring officials from the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing.
Who:
Economists Anil Puri, dean of Cal State Fullerton’s Mihaylo College of Business and Economics, and Mira Farka, Mihaylo College’s Institute for Economic and Environmental Studies research associate, will present the economic outlook and forecasts for the nation, Southern California and Orange County. They will be joined by Richard Davis, president and CEO of U.S. Bancorp and chairman of the Financial Services Roundtable.
From the University of International Business and Economics: Xu Zijian, vice president of UIBE and professor of economics; Han Hong, executive director of the Center for International Business Chinese Education and Resources Development; Li Rongrong, master’s program coordinator for the Center for International Business Chinese Education and Resources Development; Bai Shuqiang, associate secretary of the World Trade Organization Research Academy and director of Tariff Research Center; Ding Ding, secretary-general of China’s International Economic Law Association, deputy director of Beijing International Law Society and associate dean of UIBE’s law school; and Pu Jun, professor of international business.

Anil Puri has served as dean of Mihaylo College of Business and Economics since 1999. As co-director of the Institute for Economic and Environmental Studies, Puri has provided economic forecasts twice a year for 15 years and led the institute in numerous studies and policy advice on economic and environmental issues.
Before joining CSUF, Mira Farka worked on Wall Street as a research consultant and as an economist with Deutsche Bank in New York, where she was responsible for designing economic and statistical models to forecast currency rates, stock returns and macroeconomic indicators.
Richard Davis, a 1983 Cal State Fullerton economics graduate, has served with U.S. Bancorp since 1993 and became CEO in December 2006. This will be his third involvement in his alma mater’s forecast presentation.
