Information Technology’s New Normal
Information Technology VP to Address EDUCAUSE in Anaheim
Oct. 8, 2010 :: No. 26
What:
Amir Dabirian, vice president for information technology at Cal State Fullerton, will discuss “the new normal” for California State University information technology divisions, in light of a faltering economy and budget cuts, during the 2010 EDUCAUSE annual conference Oct. 12-15 in Anaheim.
Dabirian is one of four speakers slated to address “CIOs in Wonderland: Transformational Leadership for Interesting Times.” Dabirian spent the previous year serving as assistant vice chancellor of information technology and CIO for the California State University system. Joining him to speak on the topic will be chief information officers at other CSU campuses: Hilary J. Baker of Cal State Northridge, A. Michael Berman of Cal State Channel Islands and John Charles of Cal State East Bay.
When:
Wednesday, Oct. 13
11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Where:
Anaheim Convention Center, 800 W. Katella Ave., Anaheim, Meeting Room 210D
Quote:
“The fiscal environment is extremely challenging … Easy choices are gone and most one-time options are exhausted,” says Dabirian. “Beyond the technology challenges, campus IT leaders need to build a new strategy and culture in which every IT service is re-evaluated and moved to the best location, whether that’s on the campus, on another campus, in a shared facility or at a commercial provider.”
More:
Chris Manriquez, acting chief information technology officer/associate vice president for Cal State Fullerton, will be part of a roundtable discussion on “Changing Business and Delivery Models for Instructional Content” at 11:45 a.m. Friday, Oct. 15, in Room 1654 of the Marriott's Oasis Tower, 700 West Convention Way. The discussion will explore options and opportunities to change the way publishers provide, faculty select, and college students pay for textbooks and related instructional content.
