Special Events Launch CSUF Commencement Season

Celebrations Honor Soon-to-be Graduates

As Cal State Fullerton students put the finishing touches on spring semester projects and prepare for finals, the university kicks off the commencement season with a series of special events, in recognition of those who are completing their degrees and credentials.

Among the festivities scheduled in May are:

• Saturday, May 8, 2-4 p.m. — Eighth annual Asian and Pacific Islander Graduate Recognition Ceremony in Portola Pavilion of the Titan Student Union. For more information, contact Argus Tong.

• Thursday, May 13, 7-9 p.m. — Sixth annual Lavender Pride Recognition Ceremony in Portola Pavilion of the Titan Student Union. For more information, contact the Multicultural Leadership Center.

• Friday, May 14, 6-8 p.m. — Pilipino American Graduation Celebration in Portola Pavilion of the Titan Student Union. For more information, contact Sammie Sotoa.

• Saturday, May 15, noon-2 p.m. — 22nd Annual Pan-African Student Recognition Ceremony on the lawn adjacent to the Engineering and Computer Science complex. Keynote speaker is CSUF alumnus Bobby McDonald (B.S. physical education ’75), a member of the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges and president of the Black Chamber of Commerce.  For more information, contact the African American Faculty-Staff Association at aafsa@fullerton.edu

• Saturday, May 15, 5:30-9 p.m. — Chicano/Latino & Native American Graduation Celebration in Portola Pavilion of the Titan Student Union.  For more information, contact the Chicana and Chicano Resource Center or Rosalina Camacho.

• Friday, May 21, 10 a.m. – noon — ROTC Commissioning Ceremony on the lawn of the Engineering and Computer Science complex. For more information, contact eyuhico@fullerton.edu.

• Friday, May 21, 5 p.m. — Credential Commencement Ceremony in Titan Gym, Kinesiology and Health Science Building. For more information, contact Kim Naujokas at 657-278-4021.

• Friday, May 21, 7 p.m. — Honors Convocation in the Meng Concert Hall of the university’s Clayes Performing Arts Center.

• Saturday and Sunday, May 22-23 — Cal State Fullerton’s universitywide commencement ceremonies are held throughout campus beginning at 8 a.m. both days on the lawn north of Titan Gym, 800 N. State College Blvd., Fullerton, 92831. Consult the university’s Commencement 2010 Web site for details of the individual college-based exercises.
