Vehicles featured at the Alternative Energy and Transportation Expo

In celebration of Earth Week, Cal State Fullerton will host various activities April 19-23, including:

Monday, April 19
• A 10 a.m.-6 p.m. electric bicycle exhibit, in the campus Quad. The bikes will be available for test rides.Sponsored by Footprint Awareness Movement.

• A noon presentation by the Orange County Municipal Water District on being water wise, in the Becker Amphitheater. Sponsored by the ASI’s Environmental Advocacy Committee.

Tuesday, April 20
• Free Alternative Energy and Transportation Expo from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Quad. Sponsored by the university’s Center for Sustainability, Environmental Studies Student Association and College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The expo will feature an exhibition of electric, hydrogen fuel cell and other clean energy vehicles. Automobile manufacturers, energy providers, entrepreneurs and transportation agencies will be there to provide information. Exhibitors include: Kenworth Truck Co., Peterbilt, ISE Corp. — Innovative Solutions for Energy, Green Vehicles, Quantum and Anaheim Center for New Energy Technologies.  For more information, visit: http://sustainability.fullerton.edu/altexpo/index.html.

• A 7:30-9:30 a.m. breakfast program on transportation and local government featuring S. David Freeman, interim general manager of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. The breakfast will be held at the Fullerton Marriott, 2701 E. Nutwood Ave. Seats are limited and reservations are required. To reserve a seat, call Sharon Howard at 657-278-3888.

• The second annual Alternative Energy and Transportation Expo Dinner and Program from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Fullerton Marriott. The featured speaker will be Hasan Ikhrata, executive director of Southern California Association of Governments. Seats are limited and reservations are required. To reserve a seat, call Sharon Howard at 657-278-3888.

• A free art exhibit in front of the Humanities and Social Sciences Building from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. The art installations feature a 27-foot cubed area with colored ribbons representing the ton of Co2 that one U.S. citizen emits every two weeks and a pop-up gallery, highlighting sustainability.

Wednesday, April 21
• Dan Duran and Nash Ream, founders of Campus Footprint, will speak on their sustainability efforts, and the Fullerton Arboretum will present “How You Can Participate in Sustainability at the Fullerton Arboretum” at noon in the Becker Amphitheater.

• Roundtable discussion with campus faculty members at 6 p.m. in the Titan Student Union Pub. Sponsored by the ASI’s Environmental Advocacy Committee.

• Project Earth, a student volunteer group, is hosting its first Earth Day event, “Face the Earth.” The event features an educational, environmental display on the Quad from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Thursday, April 22
• Sustainability Tent — A walk-through tent that highlights several aspects of sustainability and what can be done to preserve nature’s resources — will be open from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Quad. Sponsored by the ASI’s Environmental Advocacy Committee.

• A 10 a.m.-2 p.m. composting and produce demonstration presented by the Fullerton Arboretum along the walkway between the Pollak Library and Titan Shops. Sponsored by the ASI’s Environmental Advocacy Committee.

• Eco-friendly artist Brynne Cogorno, founder of Backward Prints in Laguna Beach, will lead an 11 a.m.-2 p.m. demonstration in the Titan Student Union courtyard on how to create greeting cards and stamps using recycled materials.

Friday, April 23

E-Waste Recycle Drive-Through event from 9 a.m. -2 p.m. in the southernmost parking lot of the College Park building, 2600 E. Nutwood Ave., off Commonwealth Avenue. Sponsored by the university’s Office of Environmental Health and Instructional Safety. Community members are invited to drop off the following discarded items: cell phones, computers, computer equipment, electronic games, radios, stereo equipment, televisions and hair dryers. Large appliances, such as refrigerators, stoves and dishwashers, will not be accepted. Questions about whether an item will be accepted can be directed to the EMIS staff at 657-278-7233 or ehstudent@fullerton.edu.
