Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary
Stargazing and live music will be featured at the Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary in Modjeska Canyon Sept. 10 during an evening benefit to include hors d’ouevres, dinner and silent auction. An astronomer will be in attendance to answer questions of attendees peering through telescopes set up for the occasion. The admission price includes an annual membership.
Friday, Sept. 10 6-9 p.m.
29322 Modjeska Canyon Road, Modjeska Canyon
Funds from the event will benefit Tucker’s Outdoor Education Program. At the sanctuary, thousands of students from elementary to high-school age learn about science and the natural environment annually. University students and scientists from around the world conduct research, and area educators learn how to teach their students about the preserve’s original inhabitants. The sanctuary includes bird-watching areas, turtle and fishponds, a children’s garden, picnic areas, greenhouse, amphitheater, natural-history museum and rescued native animals, plus a walking trail through the grounds, including next to Modjeska Creek and recently restored wetlands.
A $40 admission includes an annual membership; a $75 admission for two tickets includes a family membership. The event is free for members.
