Students starting fall semester classes next week at Cal State Fullerton will find several new programs, new faculty and new opportunities on campus.
Information stations will be available to answer student queries from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 23-25 near McCarthy Hall, Pollak Library, Engineering and Computer Science complex and the Nutwood Parking Structure/Visual Arts building.
An Evening Services Fair will provide information on what services are available at night from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, between McCarthy and University halls. Discoverfest will provide information on campus resources, clubs and organizations from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Sept. 1-2 in the campus Quad.
After the first rush of classes, students can take part in the Sept. 2 Sunset Strike — free bowling, billiards and food from 5-8 p.m. in Titan Bowl and Billiards in the basement of the Titan Student Union.
On Cal State Fullerton’s Irvine Campus, students will be welcomed to the new academic year with free snacks from 3:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25.
President Milton A. Gordon will greet campus and community members at the university’s annual Convocation address Sept. 14.
Nursing students in the second largest nursing program within the California State University will be attending classes this fall in the new School of Nursing. This fall, the school is expected to have about 900 majors in 10 academic programs ranging from midwifery and school nursing to nurse educator.
Students can now study for a new bachelor’s degree in earth science. The degree is offered through the Geological Sciences Department and was established for students who have a strong interest in earth science (for careers in education, law, policy or business) but do not wish to pursue a traditional degree in geology.
In addition, new programs being offered include:
Greeting this year’s new class of faculty members will be Steven Murray, who was appointed acting vice president of academic affairs last month. Serving in his absence as acting dean of the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics is Robert A. Koch, formerly chair and professor of biological sciences.
Faculty, staff and students will find parking a little bit easier with the opening of the Eastside Parking Structure just north of the Fullerton Marriott off Folino Drive.
Students also find out that the campus has gone green — with a new, environmentally friendly trigeneration plant providing roughly half of all the power used on campus.
