Stephanie Arroyave spins the wheel at last year's Welcome to Cal State Fullerton Day. What/Who:

“Welcome to Cal State Fullerton Day” is an opportunity for high school seniors and community college transfer students, admitted for fall 2009, to see what the university has to offer in programs, services and resources. The free event, also open to other prospective students, features campus tours and information workshops. It is expected to attract more than 5,000 students and their families.

When:

Saturday, April 25
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where:

Cal State Fullerton
800 N. State College Blvd., Fullerton, 92831

Schedule:

10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

A Resource Fair along Titan Walk (west of Pollak Library) and in the Quad will feature information about each of the university’s eight colleges, student services and programs, as well as campus clubs and organizations. Faculty members, administrators and staff will be on hand to answer questions and distribute materials.

10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Workshops will give attendees the opportunity to learn more about financial aid, orientation, housing options, freshman and honors programs, teaching careers and more. Workshops will be held in University Hall, McCarthy Hall and the Humanities-Social Sciences Building.

8 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Campus tours will be conducted.

Why:

“We recognize that our admitted students have many options. We also know they likely only know about us from a Web page, a brochure or from a teacher. Our event is a wonderful opportunity for prospective students to get a taste of our university — and to make Cal State Fullerton their No. 1 college choice,” said Dawn Valencia, director of University Outreach. “Study after study shows how important campus visitation is to students’ selection process. With this kind of program, students can find out for themselves everything about the university — from the quality of our academic programs to the campus clubs they can join.”

Moreover, because of the country’s economic situation, prospective students — and their parents — are more thoughtful, careful and cautious when considering their college options, Valencia said. As a result, more prospective students are expected to attend this year’s event to make their college choice earlier.

Additional:

After attending Welcome to Cal State Fullerton Day last year, nearly two-thirds of survey respondents reported they were “very interested” in attending Cal State Fullerton, said Delia Tijerina, assistant director of precollege programs.

Registration:

Available on the day of the event

Parking:

Free parking is available in the university’s State College and Nutwood parking structures, off State College Boulevard and Nutwood Avenue, respectively.
