Alternative Transportation Expo Among Slated Activities at Cal State Fullerton

What:

Earth Week 2009 will be marked with various environmentally focused events April 20-22 at Cal State Fullerton, with activities geared to exploring transportation challenges and related energy and environmental concerns of the future.

Schedule:

Monday, April 20, 10 a.m.–6 p.m. — Alternative Transportation Expo in the campus Quad. Representatives of automobile manufacturers and energy providers, entrepreneurs and transportation agencies will exhibit vehicles and other materials. GM will show its hydrogen fuel cell vehicle; BMW is exhibiting its Hydrogen 7 vehicle; Honda, its natural gas-powered Civic and Phill home-fueling system; Mercedes, its hydrogen fuel cell, electric and advanced diesel technology; Clean Energy, its natural gas system. ZipCar, a national car-sharing company, and the Orange County Transit Authority also will present information at the Expo.

Carroll is among the speakers at an Earth Week forum on campus April 20

7-9 p.m. — “The Future of Personal Transportation” in Room 1502 of Mihaylo Hall. A forum discussion about alternative transportation by John Carroll, chair and associate professor of geography; Alison Cliath, assistant professor of sociology; Mark Filowitz, associate dean of the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics; and representatives from GM, BMW, and Mercedes. The speakers will present their views on the topic and take questions from the audience.

Tuesday, April 21, 7-8:30 p.m. — “Dwindling Drops in the Sand: Investigating Syria’s Water Crisis,” a documentary by student Sama Wareh, screened in Room 123 of the Humanities-Social Sciences Building.

Wednesday, April 22, 7-8:30 p.m. — “Shade-Grown Coffee and Sustainability” presented by Martin Diedrich of Kean Coffee in Room 1502 of Mihaylo Hall.
