Cal State Fullerton students will celebrate Cesar Chavez Day March 31 by harvesting fresh produce to feed the hungry in Orange County.
Tuesday, March 31 — Cesar Chavez Day
8:30-11:30 a.m.
Incredible Edible Park
15058 Harvard Ave., Irvine, 92612
Cal State Fullerton’s Volunteer & Service Center is organizing the student volunteers who will be picking crops with local fourth-graders who have been learning about Cesar Chavez in their classes. The CSUF volunteers will help the elementary students reflect about Chavez, a Mexican-American farmworker, labor leader and civil rights activist for migrant farmworkers.
The Volunteer Center of Orange County and Second Harvest Food Bank are hosting “Cesar Chavez Day Field Gleaning.”
“This is our spring break service event, and in the spirit of service promoted by Cesar Chavez in his life, we’re making it a day on, rather than a day off,” said Amy Mattern, Volunteer & Service Center coordinator.
