Nobel Prize Winner Among Speakers at Teaching Symposium

Paul Krugman, the 2008 recipient of the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences, is among those scheduled to address economics faculty members and colleagues at other CSU campuses and community colleges during the Friday, March 6, Economics 2009 Teaching Symposium sponsored by Cal State Fullerton’s Center for Economics Education and Worth Publishers.

Krugman, professor of economics and international affairs at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School and author of “The Return of Depression Economics and the Crisis of 2008,” “The Great Unraveling: Losing Our Way in the New Century” and “The Age of Diminished Expectations,” will give the keynote address. He will speak on “The Return of Depression Economics” at 12:30 p.m. at the Fullerton Marriott adjacent to Cal State Fullerton.

A limited number of seats for this address are available on a first-come, first-served basis for members of the public.

Also scheduled to present at the daylong, invitation-only program:

Laurence Ball, research associate for the Natural Bureau of Economic Research, professor of economics at John Hopkins University and a visiting scholar at the Central Bank of Norway and Reserve Bank of Australia. He will speak at 3:45 p.m. on “The Current Financial Crisis.”

Alex Tabarrok, Bartley J. Madden chair in economics at George Mason University’s Mercatus Center and director of research for the Independent Institute, will discuss “The Future of Economic Growth.” His address is at 9 a.m.
