Randy Olson
The Randy Olson Experience. Olson, a former marine biologist who founded Shifting Baselines Ocean Media Project, presents talk and films on global warming and the debate of evolution vs. intelligent design. Admission to the March 4-5 programs is free and open to the public.
March 4, 8:15 p.m. — “Flock of Dodos: The Evolutional-Intelligent Design Circus” screening. The film, written and directed by Olson, tackles evolution and intelligent design as a humorous documentary. Olson will lead a discussion following the screening.
March 5, 4:15 p.m. — “Don’t Be Such a Scientist: Talking Substance in an Age of Style.” Olson will deliver a lecture on his forthcoming book that draws from his own evolution from science professor to filmmaker.
March 5, 6:30 p.m. — “Sizzle: A Global Warming Comedy” screening, followed by a discussion by Olson, who wrote and directed the film.

Olson earned his doctorate at Harvard University and was a marine biologist and tenured professor at the University of New Hampshire before resigning and moving to Hollywood, obtaining a master of fine art degree from USC and embarking on a second career as a filmmaker. He co-founded the Shifting Baselines Ocean Media Project, a partnership between scientists and Hollywood to communicate the crisis facing oceans.
