Toshiba VP Talks About How Company Strives for Balance

“How a Global Technology Corporation Addresses Issues of Sustainability” is the subject of Toshiba America Information Systems Vice President Chris Harrington’s presentation at the Nov. 12 Technology Breakfast hosted by Cal State Fullerton’s College of Engineering and Computer Science. Harrington, of Toshiba’s Strategy and Business Development Division, will address the company’s approach to managing the trade-off between business values and environmental impact, and how corporate social responsibility plays into strategic planning.

Who:
Harrington is responsible for corporate strategy, business planning and new-business development across the Toshiba divisions. He is also Toshiba’s spokesperson, with responsibility for corporate public relations and environmental matters.

“Today’s balance sheet captures the financial assets and liabilities of a company, presenting an important report on its health and value. But today, and increasingly in the future, the ‘balance’ that is also of interest is the one between economic value creation and environmental impact,” Harrington explained. “The trade-off between bringing high-value products to market and consuming natural resources or making greenhouse gas emissions is part of critical business decision making. Policies and methodologies to deal with these complex questions are fundamental to fulfilling corporate social responsibility and achieving transparency. This talk explores how one major global corporation, Toshiba, is addressing this issue.”
