Friendship Games 2009

24th Annual Event Oct. 24 Highlights Pilipino Culture

What:

Cal State Fullerton’s Pilipino American Student Association hosts the 24th annual Friendship Games on campus Saturday, Oct. 24. Students from colleges and universities throughout the country will take part in team-building competitions in celebration of Pilipino culture. More than 4,000 are expected to attend the free, public event.

Lawn west of the CSUF Engineering and Computer Science complex

Background:

The Friendship Games were created in 1985 “for the purpose of bringing together PASA groups from various college campuses for a day of fun and friendly picnic games, Pilipino art, dance, culture and to celebrate spirit, pride, unity and friendship,” said Carmen Curiel, director of Cal State Fullerton's Multicultural Leadership Center and PASA adviser. “More than 30 schools compete in such games as Alpine Green, Conveyor Belt and Tidal Wave for first-, second- and third-place trophies. The school that shows the most spirit, pride, unity and friendship is awarded a trophy, measuring 8 feet tall.”

Schedule:

11 a.m. Games begin

1 p.m. Halftime show, featuring music and dance numbers

2:30 p.m. Games resume

5 p.m. “Final Rampage”
